Ainsley Doty is a Toronto-based author and storyteller. A former high school English teacher, Ainsley studied Indigenous theatre at Dalhousie University before moving to Toronto for an editorial internship at The Walrus magazine. Her work has appeared in Today’s Parent, Maclean’s, and Chatelaine. THE BLOODWOOD SOCIETY is her first novel.

Long Bio
The idea for THE BLOODWOOD SOCIETY came to Ainsley Doty in 2006, during a trip to Thailand. On the island of Koh Tao, she stood at the base of an ancient banyan tree and imagined a world living within it. It took 18 years, but her debut novel is finally ready to be shared with the world.

In the meantime, Ainsley has been busy juggling multiple careers. She started out as a high school English teacher in Calgary, Alberta, before setting out to complete a Master’s degree in English Literature at Dalhousie University. After a short but prolific stint in magazines (The Walrus, Sportsnet, Today’s Parent, Chatelaine, and more), Ainsley moved into advertisement and now works as a Sr. Creative Copywriter.

An award-winning writer and enthusiastic educator, Ainsley Doty lives in Toronto, ON with her husband, two kids, and a Golden Retriever named Nikita. THE BLOODWOOD SOCIETY is her first novel, but certainly not her last.
